In Muktananda's book "Play of Consciousness", he tells of a Saint he used to visit named Zipruanna. Here's how he describes his first visit with him (p. 104):
"The first time I visited him, he was defecating in a corner; as I approached, he began to rub his faeces ["pas*aa" -- side] all over his body. I sat down quite close to him and found that he emitted a sweet fragrance -- he didn't smell bad at all. The next time I went to see him, he was sitting on a rubbish dump. Even then the filth would not touch him. I didn't have the courage to go up close; so I stood at a distance. After a little while, he came down off the rubbish heap. I washed his feet. A fragrance like the ashtagandha (a fragrant herb) was coming from his body."
