YS IV 1:
Sutra IV.1
जन्मौषधिमन्त्रतपःसमाधिजाःसिद्धयः॥१॥
janma-oṣadhi-mantra-tapas-samādhi-jāḥ siddhayaḥ [mon. nom. sanasta siddhi]॥1॥
[HA]: Supernormal Powers Come With Birth Or Are Attained Through Herbs, Incantations, Austerities Or Concentration.
[IT]: The Siddhis are the result of birth, drugs, Mantras austerities or Samadhi.
[VH]: [BM]: [SS]: Siddhis are born of practices performed in previous births, or by herbs, mantra repetition, asceticism, or by samadhi.
[SP]: The psychic powers may be obtained either by birth, or by means of drugs, or by the power of words, or by the practice of austerities, or by concentration.
[SV]: The Siddhis (powers) are attained by birth, chemical means, power of words, mortification or concentration.
Yoga-suutran III osan "okkulttiset" voimat ja kyvyt perustuvat pääasiassa samaadhiin. Kenties voitaisiin sanoa että samaadhissa mieli on kuin tabula rasa jolle voidaan "kirjoittaa" mitä, ööö, mieleen tulee. Parempiakin analogioita lienee toki keksittävissä.
Edellämainitun Vyaasan yoga-bhaashyan sanakirjan sivun 33 vasemman palstan kuudenneksi alin devanaagariisana lienee translitteroituna:
aakaashagamanaaNimaadilaabhaH (aakaashagamana-aNimaa+aadi-laabhaH; joogalennon ja atomiksi kutistumisen yms. saavuttaminen)
Huomionarvoista lienee se, että esimerkkinä siddheistä, jotka voidaan saavuttaa yllämainituilla jipoilla, Vyaasa ottaa nimenomaan "joogalennon" (aakaasha-gamanam); aNimaadi (aNimaa + aadi) viittaa 8 mahaa-siddhiin joista eka on aNimaa eli atomin kokoiseksi kutistuminen; aadi on sanskritin vastine suomen jne:lle! Oikeastaan se tarkoittaa alkua eli viittaa luetteloon jonka eka sana (alku) on tässä tapauksessa aNimaa (lemma eli sanakirjamuoto: aNiman):
