Peruvian Gem Silica
This beautiful blue-green stone is from the southern part of Peru near Arequipa. Both Gem Silica and Blue Opal mines are located there. Copper and copper-bearing minerals are also mined nearby. Gem Silica acquires its beautiful color from the presence of copper and its black dendrites from the presence of manganese. Gem Silica contains less water in its composition than the Blue Opal, which provides more stability and less fractures and allows the cutting of larger cabs.

Mining Center is pleased to announce the availablility of rare gem silica chrysocolla. This beautiful, sky-blue, translucent cutting rough consists of a mixture of silicified chalcedony and chrysocolla. The rare color, clarity and hardness (H=7.0) are hard to come by in the lapidary world and such material is highly sought after by cutters. Its occurrence in the hydrothermal systems of Peruvian copper deposits is extremely rare, and access to the locality is very difficult. Mine run from $100/pound. Select cutting rough from $10/carat.
The Gem Silica comes from LILY MINE. It is located close to Lima in a city called Ica. In the same place you can find several other minerals like: SELENITE, DRUSY CHRYSOCOLLA, MALACHITE AND LIBETHENITE. This is the only place in Peru where you can find this new gemstone.
Kiittäen jo etukäteen, jos joku osaa auttaa...
