Subject: TMNEWS 2-Shravan & All....re....an Opinion on TM movement...fromMark

Dear Shravan:
I'd like to share my opinion re. TM, Maharishi, and the TM movement, etc.
I first learned to meditate in 1970 when I was 19 years old.
I was a fairly shy person, with more then my usual anxieties, etc.
After just a few weeks and months of meditation, I felt emmensely better.
Each day, each month and each year that I meditate I feel more and
more whole and happy.
These worries and doubts people have have been going on ever since
I've been aware of the TM movement!
Back in 1975, when I became a TM teacher myself, I noticed there was
a huge difference between the TM movement and the Maharishi himself.
Then, later I came to realize that at some point one has to even
'transcend' one's Guru.
I remember one time Maharishi said: "Even if I fall, you should still
be so strong in your meditation practice that you will not be shaken off".
Then in 1984 I moved to Fairfield and spent the better part of my next
20 years evolving as much as possible.
Over the years, in the late 1980's, I remember going through a kind of
crisis of faith myself.
Why wasn't I further along?
Why did I know so many meditators whose lives were so screwed up?
etc....
I even went to India in 1988 to attend a TM movement Ayurveda course.
Maharishi led this course, and at the very end he encouraged us to
discover Jyotish.
Well, I plunged into Jyotish in 1988, and for over almost 18 years
now have become quite good at reading this ancient knowledge.
First thing I discovered in looking at my chart was all the problems
that existed from birth and that got a little better, were right there
in my chart!
I was ultimately quite inspired by this realization because it occured
to me a lot of the meditators I know who had also been meditating for
many years; but still struggling could also benefit from understanding
their charts better.
Thus began a long crusade to figure out if I could help myself and
others work on the deeper stresses that are there in 'our' Charts.
I've now done over 10,000 people's charts, and I can say with complete
conviction that if you add the power and healing arts of Jyotish to
your Meditation practice, you will have the most amazing experiences
imaginable.
I have as a result of healing the deepest weaknesses in my chart, had
many, many more enlightenment experiences then I ever did with
meditating alone.
I have also found that this Wisdom really helped me stop sabotaging
my life, which is very common; even modern Pschology understands how
sub-conscious patterns and path ways can wreck a person's life.
Ultimately, I believe each person needs to decide for themselves
whether Maharishi's unique perspective on the Ved is true or not.
I've met a lot of non-TM people over the last 7-8 years that I've been
doing Jyotish, in fact all over the World now, and I can say, many of
them when I explain the pure genius of Maharishi's understanding
regarding meditation, and effortlessness, their experiences
immediately improve.
I've also met some other very special people over the last few years;
including the famous Indian Saint Amajji and Karunamayi to name just a
few.
I have heard from Amma especially only the most reverence and respect
for Maharishi as one of the greatest of meditation teachers.
But, every one needs to face, at some point, what if my Guru was
really crazy; what would I do!?
The Zen masters might say: "Keep carrying water"!
Which means, really, keep searching for your own enlightenment!
I can say for myself I am extremely happy with my progress and deep
spiritual experiences.
I feel quite sorry for Earl.
I think being around Maharishi so much fried his brain a little!
I wish he had his own deeper experiences to fall back upon.
Any any case, it's never boreing!
And I'd like to encourage, again, everyone who's a meditator and would
like to find something else to compliment your program; check out my
really fascinating take on Jyotish.
Sincerely,
Mark Kincaid
